Bespoke & Custom Garments
When an off-the-shelf garment does not meet your operational, design or brand requirements, TMH Safety can help develop a bespoke solution.
We have years of experience working directly with garment factories and managing made-to-order uniform projects. We can also partner with the design teams and manufacturing capabilities of major brands such as Bisley and Fashion Biz to create custom uniforms for your organisation.
Our capabilities extend from modifying an existing garment through to developing custom designs, fabrics, colours, trims and fully coordinated uniform ranges.
Bespoke Garment Design
A bespoke garment can be designed around the needs of your workforce and organisation.
Depending on the project, customisation can include:
- Garment style and construction
- Fabric selection
- Custom fabric colours
- Colour blocking and contrast panels
- Pockets and storage features
- Zips, buttons and other trims
- Reflective tape configurations
- Embroidered or printed branding
- Custom labels
- Men’s and women’s fits
- Extended sizing
- Role or department variations
- Packaging and employee distribution
We can help translate your operational requirements and brand identity into a practical garment brief for the design and manufacturing team.
Made-to-Order Through Leading Brands
TMH Safety has access to the made-to-order capabilities of major uniform and workwear suppliers, including Bisley and Fashion Biz.
This allows us to partner with established design teams and manufacturing networks to develop custom garments while drawing on the technical knowledge, production experience and quality systems of recognised Australian brands.
Made-to-order options can include:
- Custom versions of existing garment styles
- Fully bespoke garment designs
- Custom colours and fabrics
- Unique trims and design details
- Coordinated ranges across different roles
- Custom workwear and hi-vis
- Corporate uniform ranges
- Healthcare and service uniforms
- Outerwear and specialist garments
The available options, production minimums and lead times depend on the garment, fabric and manufacturing process.
Direct Factory Experience
TMH Safety also has years of experience dealing directly with garment factories for bespoke production.
Direct manufacturing can provide greater flexibility where a project requires a unique garment, specialised fabric, custom sizing or a product that is not available through an established stock range.
We help manage the process from the original concept through to sampling, approvals, manufacturing and ongoing supply.
Custom Fabric and Colour Development
For projects requiring a precise brand presentation, it may be possible to develop or mill fabric in a custom colour.
For the Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park uniform program, TMH Safety managed the development of fabric specifically milled to match a nominated colour from a Dulux paint card.
This enabled the organisation’s uniform range to reflect its selected colour rather than being limited to standard fabrics already available in the market.
Custom fabric development depends on the required material, colour, production quantity and factory capabilities.
Sublimated Garments
Sublimation allows colour and design elements to become part of the garment fabric rather than being applied to the surface afterward.
It can be particularly effective for:
- Branded polos
- Team and event garments
- Promotional apparel
- Complex patterns
- Full-colour designs
- Gradients and photographic elements
- Sponsor and partner logos
- Department or location variations
Sublimated garments can provide extensive design flexibility, but the garment design, fabric and production quantity must suit the sublimation process.
Our team can work with you and the supplier’s design team to develop concepts, review samples and prepare the design for approval.
Custom and Made-to-Order Headwear
TMH Safety can also manage offshore made-to-order caps and headwear.
Custom headwear options can include:
- Cap style and construction
- Fabric and colour combinations
- Custom panels and trims
- Woven labels and badges
- Embroidery
- SupaColour transfers
- SupaEtch branding
- SupaSub decoration
- Peak and side branding
- Custom internal labelling
- Individual packaging
The available embellishment method depends on the headwear style, artwork and required finish.
Offshore headwear production is best suited to planned orders where minimum quantities and manufacturing lead times can be accommodated.
From Concept to Production
A bespoke garment project will generally involve:
- Understanding your workforce and operational requirements
- Reviewing your existing uniforms and identified problems
- Developing a garment and design brief
- Selecting the manufacturing pathway
- Reviewing design concepts and specifications
- Producing and assessing samples
- Confirming sizing and fit
- Approving colours, fabrics, trims and branding
- Finalising production quantities
- Manufacturing, quality review and delivery
The process may require more than one sample or design revision before production approval.
Minimum Quantities and Lead Times
Bespoke and made-to-order garments require greater planning than standard stock-supported products.
Minimum order quantities and lead times depend on:
- Garment design
- Fabric availability
- Custom fabric or colour development
- Size range
- Branding method
- Factory production requirements
- Sampling and approval time
- Order quantity
- Freight method
We will explain the applicable minimum quantities, estimated timeframes and commercial requirements before the project proceeds.
Where appropriate, a uniform program can combine bespoke garments with stock-supported products. This can give an organisation a distinctive uniform while maintaining easier access to replacement garments and smaller repeat orders.
Ongoing Uniform Management
The initial delivery is only one part of a successful bespoke uniform program.
TMH Safety can help manage:
- Employee fittings and sizing
- Initial uniform rollout
- Individually packed employee orders
- Stockholding arrangements
- Forecasting and replenishment
- New employee requirements
- Replacement garments
- Branding consistency
- Product reporting
- Delivery to one or multiple locations
Approved garments can also be included in a secure, invite-only customer ordering portal with access, purchasing and approval controls tailored to your organisation.
